This year’s celebrations will be on Saturday, March 17 in Ireland and many other parts of the world. Actually, the very first parade was in 1762 and not in downtown Dublin. It was actually in Manhattan, and the tradition continues there this year. If you plan to be in New York that day, it begins at 11 am on Fifth Avenue and 44th Street and ends at 79th Street at 5 pm.
Don’t forget to wear something green, and top off the celebration with a steaming plate of corned beef and cabbage, and also some boxty, coddle, and colcannon. Check local news for scheduled celebrations in your home town. For more info about the Manhattan event, go to http://www.nycstpatricksparade.org/parade
