I’m often asked about the title of this old guy blog. Simply, the implication is that seniors are now the most abused minority. For example, My monthly retirement pay seemed adequate when I retired 28 years ago. Every other year or so, my kindly company raises it by a percentage point or two.
However, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics Consumer Price Index, during that time the dollar experienced an average inflation rate of 2.35% per year. Prices in 2018 are at least double those in 1990. The inflation rate in 2018 is an almost modest 1.99%. However, in some cases, it’s much more. Gasoline has gone from $1.10 to $3.50. Homes for sale or rent are up more than 300%. Among the worst to hit our most elderly are typical monthly nursing home fees, exploding from $500 to $5,000.
