More than a century ago my dad’s family escaped from Poland when he was 11, and my mom left Russia when she was 9. Somehow, probably with bribes and sneaky documents, they made it to New York and thru Ellis Island to eventually become legal immigrants.
Each of the families consisted of parents and six kids. Despite the difficulties, all made it safely to live together in the USA. The current illegal immigrant situation that marching activists and wealthy celebrities are exploiting is concentrating on the forced and tragic separation of Mexican kids from their illegal parents.
Of course, considering my own history, I sympathize with those who march and protest about breaking up families of the undocumented immigrants. However, as with all legal matters, there are two sides to the issue: enforcing current laws vs basic humanity. Disruptive riots are not the answer.
