Dylan Thomas had the right idea that old folks should fight for life until the inevitable farewell. But many give up too soon. It’s sad. In my daily wanderings and volunteer hours, I see them slumped on park benches and in hallways of nursing homes. Elderly people wasting their final days just waiting for the end. Hey, I’m 93, and tho I realize we all gotta go eventually, I’d rather follow the poet’s advice.
Dylan’s poem continues:
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
So, oldsters, eat healthy, go easy on the booze, trash the lung-burning cancer sticks and move your lazy derriere outside for at least an hour of raging daily exercise.
