These days the big TV story is about Jeopardy. Poker-faced contestant from Las Vegas, James Holzhauer has gone beyond $1 million in winnings, and seems unstoppable. I’ve enjoyed quiz shows since way back in the days of Groucho’s You Bet Your Life, Password, $64,000 Question, I’ve Got A Secret, Hollywood Squares and all the others.
Some of my current favorites, along with Jeopardy, are Wheel of Fortune, Family Feud, America Says, Catch 21 and my current most enjoyable, The Chase. I actually have a fond old personal memory of competing many years ago on a classic game show.
In August 1963, I was a contestant on Password, and with the help of my movie star partner, Peter Lawford, I won the enormous top prize of $500! However, a bad memory persists that just a few months later, Lawford’s brother-in-law, President John F. Kennedy, was assassinated in Dallas.
