Remember several decades ago, when online romance ads started? Most were individual offers to meet other lonely people. Except for a few commercial sites, there was no money involved.
However, today’s internet is full of greedy manipulators who want to squeeze as much money as possible by various online scams. There’s one simple rule to avoid getting robbed online. No matter how attractive the promises seem to be, don’t respond. If you do, you’ll be added to a sucker list and then bombarded by endless phony dating and other offers.
Of course, never give personal financial information such as Social Security, credit card nor bank account numbers. When you get unsolicited online and phone pitches promising dating, other social connections and/or investments, ignore them.
