According to recent scientific studies, dog ownership is responsible for 24% reduction in early death. The American Heart Association says pet owners who walk their dogs got up to 30 minutes more daily exercise than non-walkers.

That indicates healthier cholesterol and lower blood pressure. Along with improving mental health, dogs provide companionship and affection that can reduce anxiety and depression. That’s especially important to older people after a major illness, such as a heart attack or stroke.
