It pays very well to be the wife of the former President. Tickets for her upcoming speech on November 4 cost up to $4,200 each. It’s rather modestly named, “A Moderated Conversation with Michelle Obama.” The former First Lady is scheduled to appear in the large theater at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
It’s estimated that Mrs. Obama now earns more than $1,000,000 annually for such appearances. Does anyone wonder if wives of other famous guys could have made as much money making speeches? For instance, Mrs. Patrick Henry, whose most memorable line could have been, “Give me liberty or an open account at Bergdorf Goodman.”
Or Mrs. Teddy Roosevelt, who may have declared, “Speak softly, but carry a big purse.” Or Mrs. Abe Lincoln, who may have uttered, “Four score and seven years ago, prices were much lower.” Or Mrs. Ronald Reagan, who may have shouted, “Mrs. Gorbachov, tear down that mall!”
