Ex-President Jimmy Carter, 95, Brain Surgery

CarterfaceIt was to relieve pressure caused by bleeding due to recent falls. He’s at the Carter Center at Emory University Hospital, the Atlanta-based nonprofit he founded. The report said Carter was “recovering following surgery to relieve pressure on his brain from a subdural hematoma”. The ex-President has fallen at least three times this year, and the first incident required hip replacement surgery.

I’m a year younger than Carter and had a similar problem recently, a sudden black-out and fall in the bathroom that injured my face. These preventable accidents should be a warning to all nonagenarians, as well as other vulnerable seniors. At all times, realize how unsteady you gradually become at advanced age. Take extra precautions, such as holding on tightly as you move in potentially dangerous areas at home and elsewhere. A good idea is to keep someone close to you to enhance safety.
